Let's create together a new sport practice

Imagine an international Esport competition around a new practice mixing real and virtual. The teams, after having won the play-off round in their respective countries, finally face each other by super-powers interposed in the virtual arena of the stadium officially selected for the final of the world championship.

The public came en masse to witness the confrontation, broadcast in parallel on the VR streaming channels.

In a frenetic ballet mixing martial arts and supernatural cybernetic abilities,
the athletes, moulded in their eXosuits and equipped with their VR headset, released by their movements all the power of their avatars.

Some deploy force fields, others pure energy waves or swarms of drones. Each team tries to gain the upper hand over the opponent to achieve the objective of the game that will lead them to victory.

This is the dream of the 3 co-founders of Bigger Inside, 2 brothers and their mutual friend, all 3 passionate about technology and video games. In 2014, the release of the Oculus Rift DK2 by Oculus VR promises to take VR to the next level and democratize it by taking advantage of the technologies resulting from the rise of smartphones.

But you always had to have a strong stomach when doing experiences simulating movement. Because the user, sitting in a chair, remained desperately still even if his point of view in the headset moved quickly. The brain always refused to believe the deception, and the seasickness associated with this dissonance ruined the experience! The lack of representation of the user's body in the virtual world added to the overall frustration of the experience.

How to make the brain believe that the user is moving in the virtual universe and thus overcome this motion sickness? How to finally obtain a level of immersion that meets the expectations of these 3 science-fiction enthusiasts?

By making the players actually move while capturing all of their movements so that the avatar reproduces them identically.

From this observation was born Protocol 223, after 5 years of R&D punctuated by tests with the general public. The first took place during the release of Ready Player One by Steven Spielberg in March 2018. For the first time in the world, the public was able to try out a mixed reality free movement experience that merged real and virtual walls and in which players competed against each other using their body movements to trigger their abilities.

Following this, Bigger Inside joined the Business & Innovation Center of Montpellier, ranked as the world's second largest incubator for innovative companies, in order to finalize the development of its experience and commercialize it.

The first commercial version of the eXosuit, which captures the movements of the entire body of the player, including each finger of the hand, was presented worldwide at the CES in Las Vegas in January 2019. The team then worked hard to complete the development of the game and present the alpha version at the Occitanie Esport in June 2019 and conduct playtests of the beta version in September.

Protocol 223 is finally available to players since December 2019 at The Cluster room in Montpellier. The deployment of new rooms will first take place in France before entering the international market at the end of 2021.
